Several years ago a woman was taken with a severe and extremely painful attack of rheumatic fever, which brought her near death’s door and left her crippled.

Medicines and doctors seemed to do no good. She lived on for some years only able to hobble about on crutches.

Having read an account of the pilgrimages to Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, she was filled with confidence and promised Our Lady to make a pilgrimage and to have Masses celebrated in Carey if she would get well. She began to get better and could at last walk without crutches. In July she redeemed her vow and came to Carey and left her crutches at the Shrine, along with a statement of her cure.
