2010: A Year of Blessing

This year we have a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon all of the blessings God has bestowed on us in the past and to look forward to the ones he will give to us during the coming year.  At Our Lady of Consolation this year, we are choosing to look at our Shrine as a place of great blessings, large and small.  So many people come here looking for God’s touch in their lives and leave at peace and with hope in their hearts.  We hope that you, too, will open your hearts to the many blessings God bestows here through the intersession of Our Lady of Consolation.  Whether you can come here in person or send us your prayer intentions through the mail or over the Internet, please let us share with you the many blessings God grants through the prayers of Our Lady of Consolation.

Praying for Our Departed
Written by Brother Jeffrey Hines, OFM Conv.

While on a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Saint Anne de Beaupre in Quebec, Canada, I was introduced to a lovely thought. As a part of my pilgrimage I always arrange for Masses to be offered for the deceased members of my family.

On this visit I was in the Information area waiting in line to give my Mass stipends. Ahead of me was a lady, also offering Masses. She asked the attendant a question that had often been in my mind also: “What happens to all these Masses we have offered for someone, who by this time may be in heaven!” The response to the lady touched my heart. The attendant said, “Why those Masses and prayers go directly into the heart of God, who lovingly touches those of us who need Him the most”

The Gift of Our Time
Written by Brother Jeffrey Hines, OFM Conv.

One of the most precious gifts we have to give is our time. I often think that I will go to visit a nursing home, not because there is someone there I want to see, but to find someone there who is alone and sit and talk with that person. Then I remember that I have something that I really think I should do. It is when I set that task aside and go to the nursing home, that I am giving a more perfect gift of my time.

A Little Plan
Written by Brother Jeffrey Hines, OFM Conv.

Sometime today, say a prayer for someone you know. Then call that person to see how they are, and tell them that you prayed for them today. That’s all.
