2010: A Year of Blessing
This year we have a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon all of the blessings God has bestowed on us in the past and to look forward to the ones he will give to us during the coming year. At Our Lady of Consolation this year, we are choosing to look at our Shrine as a place of great blessings, large and small. So many people come here looking for God’s touch in their lives and leave at peace and with hope in their hearts. We hope that you, too, will open your hearts to the many blessings God bestows here through the intersession of Our Lady of Consolation. Whether you can come here in person or send us your prayer intentions through the mail or over the Internet, please let us share with you the many blessings God grants through the prayers of Our Lady of Consolation.

Saint John Vianney reminds us of something that is not very comfortable: “You cannot please both God and the world at the same time. They are utterly opposed to each other in their thoughts, their desires and their actions.” |

I often thank God that I have the singular blessing of being stationed here Carey, Ohio at Our Lady’s Shrine. However, I often am touched overwhelmed with the thought the holiness of this place is not only because the miraculous statue of Our Lady of Consolation is here, but because it is the resting place of the Blessed Sacrament. What a great gift we have with the presence of our Eucharistic Lord in our Churches. Can we ever be alone, or feel lonely when we remind ourselves of the special presence of Jesus in our midst through the Sacrament of His love? |

While on a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Saint Anne de Beaupre in Quebec, Canada, I was introduced to a lovely thought. As a part of my pilgrimage I always arrange for Masses to be offered for the deceased members of my family. On this visit I was in the Information area waiting in line to give my Mass stipends. Ahead of me was a lady, also offering Masses. She asked the attendant a question that had often been in my mind also: “What happens to all these Masses we have offered for someone, who by this time may be in heaven!” The response to the lady touched my heart. The attendant said, “Why those Masses and prayers go directly into the heart of God, who lovingly touches those of us who need Him the most” |
