2010: A Year of Blessing

This year we have a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon all of the blessings God has bestowed on us in the past and to look forward to the ones he will give to us during the coming year.  At Our Lady of Consolation this year, we are choosing to look at our Shrine as a place of great blessings, large and small.  So many people come here looking for God’s touch in their lives and leave at peace and with hope in their hearts.  We hope that you, too, will open your hearts to the many blessings God bestows here through the intersession of Our Lady of Consolation.  Whether you can come here in person or send us your prayer intentions through the mail or over the Internet, please let us share with you the many blessings God grants through the prayers of Our Lady of Consolation.

Our Sacrifice
Written by Brother Jeffrey Hines, OFM Conv.

In our quiet prayer time we can find many sources of writings that help us take our minds away from distractions and center on God. Often times that focusing our thoughts on God can demand quite a little effort on our part. That in it’s self is a sacrifice. Listen to the words of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton as she speaks of sacrifices: “You think you make sacrifices. Look at the sacrifice of Calvary and compare yours with it!â€

Loving With Our Whole Heart
Written by Brother Jeffrey Hines, OFM Conv.

Our holy mother Saint Claire of Assisi was one of the most perfect models of sanctity in the history of the Church. In her writings we have a wonderful and blessed source of inspiration on how we might live our lives. Among these writings we find … “Love with your whole heart the One who offered Himself with His whole heart for you.â€

Love for God
Written by Brother Jeffrey Hines, OFM Conv.

Some time ago I visited the Church of Saint Francis Rippa in Rome. In one of the side chapels there rests the body of a Franciscan Saint, Charles of Sezze. I remember as a novice at one time our table reading was a life of Saint Charles. I have always been taken by one of his statements: “God does not command us to live in hair shirts and chains, or to chastise our flesh with scourges, but to love Him above all things and our neighbor as ourselves.â€
