A man was taken ill early in 1880, he went from bad to worse but called no doctor until April.

His illness was deemed malaria but medicines brought no improvement.  He consulted other medical men and eventually it was determined that he had a disease of the kidneys, and the prospect of recovery was considered most doubtful.

Calling in the priest to give him the last sacraments, the latter advised him to promise a pilgrimage to Carey, the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation.

At once he began to get better but weak and emaciated as he was he delayed from January to August 1881 coming to the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation.  Joyously he declared himself to be perfectly well, and thankful to Our Lady of Consolation.
